Elon Musk Finally Loses Patience with SpaceX Employees

Earlier this month, The Wall Street Journal broke the news that employees at Elon Musk’s space exploration company SpaceX had sent an open letter to the CEO, voicing concerns about his decision-making abilities and use of Ambien in the workplace. In response, Musk fired off an email to employees, calling them a bunch of bozos and pointing out that meds help. Now, it seems as though Musk has decided to take action against the whistleblowers by firing them outright. If that’s not an overreaction, we don’t know what is!

The Tale of a Disgruntled Employee

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from watching shows like House of Cards and movies like The Social Network, it’s that rivalries in business can get extremely dirty. When a CEO has employees who openly undermine him or her, either through social media or anonymously, they tend to go straight for blood. After two years of facing employee sabotage, Elon Musk finally had enough.

How the Press Stole this Story

In a recent email, to all employees of SpaceX, founder Elon Musk expressed his frustration at their failure to reach performance milestones. He was particularly critical of those who had signed a letter condemning his attempt to take Tesla private. I’m disappointed that some individuals chose to make themselves feel better by attacking me, instead of working together as a team...

Employees Respond on Reddit

An anonymous post on a Reddit forum discussing recent events at SpaceX suggests that most employees are standing behind their CEO. The vast majority of people working there love what they do and feel pride in their work, said someone claiming to be an engineer who works for Musk. Anything that negatively impacts your ability to do your job is demoralizing.

What Happens Next

It has been obvious for quite some time that CEO Elon Musk hasn’t been satisfied with how things are progressing at his space travel company, SpaceX. Rumors were swirling that some of his employees have been skimming funds from contracts. Last month, there was a letter that went around calling him out on these issues as well as other questionable decisions he’s made over time.

Closing Thoughts

Over a thousand employees sent a letter to Elon Musk and other executives at SpaceX complaining about low pay, long hours, and under-appreciation for their hard work. When asked about his feelings on their whiny millennial letter, Musk was quoted as saying: These people just don’t want to work!. Several SpaceX employees fired in recent days following an internal investigation by Human Resources.
