Satyadev and Tamannah's Gurtunda Seetakalam has been in the making for a long time now. The romantic drama finally hit the screens today. Let's see how it is.
Story:
Dev (Satyadev) is a middle class guy who is in love with Ammu (Kavya Shetty). But his love story ends badly. Later, Dev marries Nidhi (Tamanna) and starts a happy life. But a sudden turn changes the couple's life. What this twist is and how the pair overcome it forms the rest of the story.
Extra Points:
Gurtunda Seetakalam is the official remake of the Kannada hit Love Mocktail and is decently tuned for the Telugu audience. Megha Akash plays the anchor role and deserves her character.
Tamannah performed quite well in the last ten minutes of the film. Priyadarshi is neat as the hero's friend and evokes comedy. Suhasini was good in a cameo.
Finally, if Gurtun Seetakalam can be watched, it is only because of the hero Satyadev. He carries the film on his shoulders and performs very well. This role gave him so many shades to perform that Satyadev nailed it.
Negative points:
One of the biggest flaws of the movie is the lack of novelty factor in the movie. From the story to the scenes, you might have seen them in endless movies till date. Satydev has to choose his stories carefully because Gurtunda has nothing interesting to show in a film like Seetakalam.
The movie has a very dark theme and doesn't look fresh. Satyadev's few college episodes are good but rest of the romance is very boring. The film has no point of conflict and runs out of steam in the second half. Satyadev and Tamannah do not have good chemistry at all.
Tamannah plays the main lead and she enters the proceedings quite late. Also, how she enters Satyadev's life is shown in a hurry. The hero goes through a bad breakup and his friends set him up with Tamannah. On the first date, he proposes to her. There are many such stupid scenes in the movie.
The last part called the main twist has a lot of scope to heighten the drama, but the director fails to add any depth and the lead pair just sleepwalking into their roles seems forced.
Technical Aspects:
The music of Kaala Bhairavan is absolutely fine as none of the songs register on screen. But its BGM was good.
As for director Nagasekhar, he has done a rather disappointing job with the film. He has not fully utilized actors like Satyadev and Tamannah and narrated the film on a very dull note. There is no depth in the emotions, romance or tragedy displayed at the end, making this film a dead rubber.
Verdict:
Overall, Gurtunda Seetakalam is a stale romantic drama with nothing new to showcase. Tamannah and Satyadev try hard to save this movie with their performances but the poor script and narration lacks depth thus making this movie a yawn fest this weekend. Ignore it.
