Gunpowder Milkshake Plot Synopsis
Gunpowder Milkshake is a pretty straight forward action thriller that takes cues from Kill Bill and John Wick. At the center of this conflict is Samantha, a woman who works for a shady company known as The Firm after Mother Scarlett disappeared 15 years ago. Sam now took his mother's place as a ruthless assassin.
Unfortunately, a botched mission results in the accidental killing of crime boss Jim McAlester's son. As expected, his father is out for revenge. Complicating matters further, an unfortunate incident sees Samantha tasked with looking after 8-year-old Emily while her father, David, is rushed to hospital.
What follows is a bloody crusade where Samantha fights one-off skirmishes, eventually teaming up with the Brotherhood and a familiar face from the past.
Who are the Brotherhood?
The Brotherhood is a trio of conspirators who use their librarian front as a disguise. We first see them during the film's opening, when Sam is on the run from The Firm and needs some weapons.
They are tough as nails and have ties to Scarlet as well. They happen to be his mother's old partners Madeleine, Florence and Anna May. They have a very close bond which is evident throughout the film.
In a way, their library is reminiscent of the Continental Hotel in John Wick.
Does everyone survive the library battle?
In the second half of the film, Jim intends to capture Samantha and Emily. After regrouping with their estranged mother and escaping the apartment, the trio arrive at the library where they reunite.
There the girls show their last stand as they fight their way against these men. The only one who doesn't fight (to begin with) is Madeleine, who hides in the getaway van with Emily. When things start to run out, he gives Emily a Walkman to drown out the hail of bullets with music.
Jim McAlester's nephew Virgil enters the room with Madeleine and a machine gun. He hits the man with bullets, but it's Virgil who gets the last laugh. He shoots her in the heart, but then conveniently runs out of bullets.
Madeleine is killed as the pair are matched toe to toe. This leads to Emily's kidnapping and the ultimate suicide mission.
Does Sam survive the cafeteria ordeal?
Emily is captured and taken to the diner where McAlester and his men are sitting waiting for Sam. They agree to release the girl in exchange for her surrender and surrender to them. Believing this to be a suicide mission, Sam expects the worst and prepares to protect Emily no matter what.
However, the big twist is that all the cafeteria workers are actually sisters in disguise. As Samantha pulls Emily out, a huge slow-motion shootout ensues, with all the villains (including Jim McAlester) dead and the women walking away victorious.
Samantha Murder ?
After a big fight with McAlester, Samantha and Nathan come to an agreement. Sam doesn't want to kill him because he knows someone else will take his place. Sam orders Nathan to tell the partners at the Firm that they need to be left alone from the sisterhood. He wants a peaceful future away from his murderous life.
Nathan agrees and offers to do whatever he can to change things. As the film ends, we see Emily forgiving Sam for killing her Father, justice being quickly served to all the men who wronged her.
In the final shot, the girls are all driving along the beach, leaving everything open for a possible sequel. After all, can Nathan really be trusted to do the right thing? Or will you use force to remove the women no matter what? We have to wait and see!
