Meta C.E.O. Admits Midterms Take Priority Over Elections

With midterm elections looming, CEO of Meta Inc., Tim Morgan, has told reporters that his company will not be pushing its new product, Nexus 7, to the side in favor of the upcoming elections like it has been doing in the past. This comes as a major surprise to many who assumed that the upcoming election season would be Meta’s time to shine; however, recent reports suggest that Nexus 7 sales have been slow compared to expectations and this may be due to the company’s lack of promotion and focus on their newest product in past elections.

The truth behind her decision

For too long, meta and its citizens have allowed politics to distract us from what’s truly important. My first priority is keeping meta safe, and with a rising insurgence of human-dinosaur hybrids on campus, it would be foolish to waste resources on elections right now. It’s time for everyone to focus on surviving finals—and nothing else!

What the change means for students

The Student Senate elections have been moved to two weeks after midterm week. The election will take place during an open forum Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 8-10 p.m., in which candidates will make their official campaign announcements and answers questions from students about what they’re running for, how their term would play out, and other questions of general interest to students at UMass Amherst.

How the switch was made possible

After our successful end-of-term elections, we turned our focus to midterm elections, but then we had to deal with an unexpected bug in our school administration software that halted voting and caused a lot of anxiety among students. The problem was eventually resolved and voting resumed, but it didn’t help us regain any lost momentum for Election Day. At some point during all of this we also forgot about how much time it takes to prepare for a successful election season—the actual campaigning can be really intense!

Where they’re headed next

The CEO of Meta Social Media, a company that develops social media networks for public agencies, told The Daily Globe earlier today that midterms have become his company’s number one priority since several clients called in with issues after their apps went down during election day. Since then, he says, Our phones haven’t stopped ringing.
