The Power of the 0.5 Selfie

The Power of the 0.5 Selfie

You’ve probably seen them all over social media, photos taken from an angle so as to make the photographer look more attractive than normal. For whatever reason, it’s become much more common to take pictures of yourself from this angle. These pictures are so popular now that they’ve even gotten their own name: the 0.5 selfie, named after the 0.5x camera filter on most smartphones. In this blog post, we discuss why these pictures became so popular and how you can take your own 0.5 selfies if you want to stand out on social media!

Famous Examples

A0sraeli, Aike, Anastasia...the list goes on and on (and gets hotter as you go down!) But where did all these sexy screen names come from? How did they become part of our vernacular? Let’s start at the beginning

What makes a strong 0.5 selfie?

A powerful 0.5 selfie should be both head and shoulders, but must not show your full body. Doing so indicates a lack of confidence that can make an otherwise strong candidate seem desperate or unprofessional. Make sure you are wearing business-appropriate attire to all interviews, with no visible piercings or tattoos (1/4 sleeves are ok for women).

Why are they so popular?

0.5 selfies are only a couple years old, but they’ve quickly become part of mainstream culture. When did you last see someone walking down the street who wasn’t taking a selfie? It might be difficult to imagine that just a few years ago, mobile phones didn’t have cameras in them and people would take pictures by pointing their camera-less phone at themselves and pressing camera/video instead!

How do I take a good 0.5 selfie?

Well, first and foremost, you need a selfie stick! They’re fairly cheap nowadays and are really easy to use. Just snap it onto your phone, extend it as much as you want (the longer it is, obviously, the further away from yourself you can take your shot!) And then just make sure that your Instagram filters are all ready to go before taking your photo!
